Rent paid regularly not landlord demanding arrears received notice

I am an old tenant got new shop in 1990 in a redeveloped bldg on tenancy base,I am paying the rent regularly in time and up to date Aug 2015 accepted by the landlord but no receipt & then sent rent of 4 months till date Dec 2015 cheque accepted not credited to his A/c.The landlord is demanding arrears of rupees 1,12,000/- from the year 1997-98 till 2015 as increase in capital value tax.He has issued a notice demanding the total amount Under 15(2) M.R.C.A.1999 or he states to terminate my tenancy.He had issued demand letters from June to dec 2015 and the legal notice in Jan 2016. What can i do?

The Question is much confusing. The Landlord if has received the rent till a particular date, he might have issued a Receipt to that date. If landlord does not issue receipt to anyone then there might be some way in which he acknowledges the Receipt of Rent. You should reply to the notice through an Advocate and answer his claim through such notice and also you can pay any arrears (if any) through the same notice.
