Gujarat Rent Bill, 2026 विधानसभा से पारित हो चुका है और 1947 के पुराने Rent Control framework को बदलने का प्रावधान करता है। लेकिन 40–50 वर्ष पुराने किरायेदार को केवल इसलिए तुरंत बेदखल नहीं किया जा सकता कि वर्तमान बाजार किराया अधिक है। बेदखली के लिए कानून में निर्धारित आधार और प्रक्रिया का पालन आवश्यक होगा। नए कानून में किराया न देना, संपत्ति को नुकसान पहुँचाना, बिना अनुमति sub-letting आदि जैसे आधारों पर कार्रवाई का प्रावधान बताया गया है। इसलिए पुराने किरायेदार की स्थिति, पुराना किरायानामा, किराया भुगतान, संपत्ति का प्रकार और नए कानून के लागू होने की तारीख देखकर ही राय दी जा सकती है।
