Insurer's right to request to furnish bank account statement?

25-Dec-2025 (In Insurance Law)
My mother died in a road accident. She held an ICICI Bank account with complimentary ICICI Lombard personal accident insurance (account-linked & NOT card-linked) covering accidental death. After submitting all the evidential documents proving the accidental death, the insurer now asks for her 3-month prior bank statement, which seems unrelated. Both, the bank & the insurer, also haven’t shared the policy documents despite repeated requests. I suspect the info may be used to falsely reject

In an account-linked PA policy, insurer can seek only relevant documents. Prior bank statements are not mandatory unless relevance is shown. Bank/insurer must supply policy terms; rejection on undisclosed grounds is illegal.

For accidental death claims, insurer cannot seek irrelevant documents or withhold policy terms. Demand policy copy in writing. You may give statement under protest. If delay or rejection persists, file complaint with IRDAI and Consumer Forum for deficiency of service.

You need to get policy papers first to file claim. If you have policy number then write mail to Insurer support mail id. once you get policy copy then you can submit claim form duly filled along with death certificate, Policy Final Report, PM Report to Insurer.
