Where to register marriage in case one spouse US citizen

Hi, I am a Sikh and getting married to a Sikh, who is a US citizen. I am a resident of Calcutta and my marriage is going to happen in Punjab, on October. I want to register my marriage within one or two days after the wedding ceremony. Which place do I need to register my marriage, in Punjab or Calcutta? Also, should I get my marriage registered under Hindu Marriage Act or Special Marriage Act ?

It is advisable to have the marriage registered under Hindu Marriage Act and place of marriage you may choose either Punjab or Kolkata is depend upon you as there is no bar for getting the marriage registered in a place where you reside.

As you are the Husband and moreso you reside in calcutta abd being a hindu you should marry in Kolkata under section 7(2) of Hindu Marriage act by way of Saptapadi which completes your marriage after 7 rounds taken and then apply thereafter with a registrar the next day and within 7 working days the registration will be complete and you will be handed over your marriage certificate instantly. Wish you all the best. Do it in Kolkata for a technical reason.

As you are residing at kolkata you are eligible to register your marriage at kolkata before a marriage registrar practicing at your jurisdictional court. You can get your marriage registered under foreign marriage act. You can intend a notice to the marriage registerer in writing not less than 30 days. Since you are getting married in Punjab u need to get urself registered by a marriage registerer in Punjab.

U can register Ur marriage at any place either in Kolkata or in Punjab, But if u want to register under Hindu Marriage Act then it will b after Ur social marriage, and if before then under Special Act.
