Legal binding for daughter to keep well off father at her place

13-Jun-2023 (In Family Law)
Hi, we are 2 daughters to our parents. After my mother's death ,my father is saying that legally I have to keep him with me at my place for 6 months and 6 month my sister will keep. nMy husband is not willing to keep him at our place. Can my father file case against me? Am I legally required to keep him? My father is well off and has no money issue.

Yes, you are legally bound to look after your parents, and your father can file a suit against you, if you fail to look after him. You also can solve this amicably, by make any arrangements to take care of your father.

When there is no male heir, daughter is obligated to maintain her parents. Irrespective of the amount of wealth, an aged person needs human support during debilitating age. It is a difficult task but it is the responsibility of children. Your father can file a case, not for maintenance but for care.
