In-laws claiming share in stridhan, what to do

30-Dec-2023 (In Family Law)
Hi, I live in Canada since 2011. Me and my husband got married in 2011 before coming to Canada. My parents gave me 100 tola gold in my wedding. But we kept that jwellery in my in-laws possession in India in their lockers trusting them. I brought a few small jwellery to canada to wear on small occasions. About 20 tola is in my possession in Canada. My husband and his family is claiming full amount in my possession in Canada and is denying any jwellery in their possession. I am stuck. How do I prove to Indian court that I only took few ornaments to wear but all my big jwellery is still in their possession. They are denying it completely. My husband is also asking for half the money of that jwellery in Canada and Canadian court cannot do anything since the jwellery is not in Canada. How do I deal with this situation? Please help. This jwellery was my father’s hard earned money and my safety for my future.

Your jwellary gifted by your father is your shreedhan. Please file case in india where your inlaws are staying for recovery of your streedhan. You must provide bills of that jwellary and write details of bank account where your inlaws put your jwellary.

You have to file domestic violence act application and that you should ask for your ”stridhan” But as u said you are staying there in Canada and the jwellary is with your in laws in india u may give power to one of your family person who reside in india and should file necesarry petition against your in laws..such as harassment if they do so, domestic violence and criminal complain also.but by the power of attorney signed or given by you to your close one.
