The procedure to get maintenance for hindus is under section 24 of Hindu Marriage Act and one should apply before the proper family court for maintenance. The claim for the maintenance should include all the rent school fee medical fee food and dressing including transportation and you can claim according to the life style you lead and the income of your husband.

Well,...Your sister can claim legally maintenance for her and two kids if her husband is not giving any maintenance through court not through Police station. Even if her husband is working or living abroad maintenance claim for wife and children can be easily obtained through a court order. If you need further details pls contact me. Thanks
