Damaging behaviour of parents since a long time

03-Jul-2023 (In Family Law)
Hi! I am a 27 years old female. Since I was a child, I have seen my parents fighting grossly, without ever caring an iota about how it affected us. After these many years they continue to do so. I have tried separating from them twice, but they called me back saying that it will bring bad name to the family. On top of it, my father always withdrew financial support when he should have, esp in the matters of studies. Better financial and emotional support plays a vital role in shaping an individual's life. But it was quite restricted in my case and it has affected me adversely. Despite advices from my teachers and everyone else, he never got me any training in whatever I was good at. Inspite of so much of fights, abuse, and turmoil (created by my mother who has her own issues)right under his he never made an effort to protect us from this negativity ever. All these experiences have really affected my life and I want to sue my father for this. Kindl tell me what legal options do I have?

Query perused. I would advise you as under : an unmarried daughter who is unable to maintain herself can claim maintenance from her father even if she is a major. In case you are still financially dependent you can file a maintenance petition against your father and claim maintenance.

Hello ma'am i have perused your query. You can file a suit for mental distress, pain, threat etc. against your father and can claim damages from him. If in case some ancestral property is also invloved then you can go for a partition suit as well. For further information feel free to contact me.
