Cheating is a cognizable offense in strict legal terms. In such cases, Section 154 CrPC allows the filing of an FIR with the SHO at a police station. You can approach the Police station in question and file your FIR. The SHO will register and investigate the case.

Generally in Uttar Pradesh police is not register FIR directly in the matters of dowry demand etc . First they sent application to the Mahila Police where the counsellor investigate the matter and try to solve the problem of husband and wife mutually and amicably. if the matter is not resolved then send back this application for further necessary action. if the is not register your report then file a application under Right to Information Act and asked the status of the application from the concerned police station. you can also file a petition against the husband and other in laws before concerned magistrate court under section 156 (3) Cr.P. C. I think you should get all the answers to your query. still you want to consult with me then you can contact me for further information or any other questions through the administrator of this website
