Getting belongings back from matrimonial house

28-Oct-2023 (In Divorce Law)
I have been staying at my parents' house for over 4 months now but all my belongings such as clothes, jewellery, books etc are at my matrmonial house. I have filed a complaint in CAW cell for domestic abuse and demanding dowry against my in-laws and husband. How can I get my stuff back? Can I just go with my brother or father to get my clothes back? Or can I ask a police officer to accompany me while I get my stuff from the matrimonial home? My mother-in-law has been keeping all my jewellery. What do I do?

you have a right to get the stridhan back. taking the police there and making a video would suffice. do not let things get out of hand as it can be used against you in court or before Crimes Againat Women cell.

If you have finalised that you don’t want to live in your matrimonial home then it’s better to go for DV first and in that you can claim your maintenance or for your child if any. You can also claim separate residence and alimony. If you are afraid that your in-laws will do some harm to you or your family members it’s better to get the orders from the court.

Hello Mam,

Ask your Investigating Officer to put pressure on them to return your belongings to you or else you can file criminal complaint in the court to get those materials things from the in laws. Also if you want to file divorce, you can claim those things too.
