Me and my husband live in canada. He already applied divorce in canada. But he did violence with me. But we performed wedding in india. Can we our dowry back in india, if we will get divorced in india. Do I need to come to india to file a complaint against them? nThank you

If your marriage happens as per Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 then you can apply for divorce in India. Also , you can file a case of dowry under section 498a in India. For Further Assistance, You may unhesitatingly contact me.

Hello please share more details like duration marriage, since how long you are living in Canada, are you Indian passport holder etc to advice you further. However You can contact nearest Indian Embassy/Consulate to assist you. Further if you want to file a civil case for recovery of dowry articles/property in india you may send send special power of attorney in India but if you want to file divorce or domestic violence case you need to come to India.
