Does economic abuse comes under 498a?

I would like to know if economic abuse comes under 498a. Taking money on the basis of emotional abuse like silent treatment, suicide threats, divorce and separation threats. Is there any women welfare association guide through this process?

yes, it constitutes mental cruelty. if you have evidence of any mental cruelty you may file a complaint against your husband in the nearest police station and if police refuses you can send the complaint by post to commissioner of police and even then if no action is taken you can directly file case in court. thank you

Dear Madam, You may check women organizations online and take their help in your case. Economic abuse is also comes under Section 498A of IPC and also attracts Section 3 and 4 of Dowry Prohibition Act. Instead of clarifying all these things you may directly approach higher police officers and see that FIR is registered against your spouse and his family members.

difficult to bring your above matter into the ambit of 498a. however if you are able to prove the threats mentioned by you can go head with other provisions of law. I do not know of any women you welfare Association who can guide you properly.
