Do I need to apply for a divorce?

12-Feb-2025 (In Divorce Law)
At 20, I eloped with a 25-year-old boy. He applied sindoor on my forehead, and we exchanged flower malas, but there was no registered, temple, or social marriage—nor a Hindu Brahmin present. Only his side witnessed it, and a few photographs exist. I lived with him for nine months, but due to his physical abuse, I left and ended the relationship. It has now been three years without contact, and I am set to marry someone else. Recently, he requested a mutual divorce. Do I need to proceed with it?

Hello, Yes. If he is asking for mutual divorce please go through the process just to be on the safe side and to avoid difficulties in the future in any manner whatsoever. It will also provide a closure to both the sides legally. Regards
