Consequence of filing divorce (Hindu Marriage Act)

Hello, I was recently married 7 months back and due to some ethical issue my wife left home and started living separately. Both family came to sort out the issue but my wife was not sure about whether she wants to continue with me or not and even I and my family never forced her to do so. Although her mother wants to separate us but she is not saying it clearly and asking us to say what do we want. In this case we just asked you first decide and let us know as she(wife) is not yet clear whether she wants to continue or not. It is more than months still her father has not yet decided, this is where we are concern that why they are not saying it clearly if they are ready to separate us. My question here are: - what could be the reason that they are holding it back? - what would be the consequences if i file the petition first? - what could be the major challenges we may have to face?
