When Court summons someone as a witness to produce documents that are in the possession of that witness it is mandatory that that documents be produced, he/she should have a very valid reason to say that they cannot produce the same.

if there is a court order they have to produce it and if not produced the court can take action against them, if they have and they can produce the documents then not producing them will certainly be harmful to them, without and valid reason if they fail to produce court is bound to take action against them.

Dear Sir, Adverse inference can be drawn for non production of such documents. Nobody can refuse to produce the documents on any ground to the Court. If Court take such matter seriously it can attach properties of such company or employer.
