Quashing of FIR in lay mens terms means cancellation of FIR.one can go for either Quashing of FIR or Quashing of Charge sheet.Their are guidelines set by Supreme Court of India for what has to be looked into in case of Quashing of FIR.some of the guidelines are no useful purpose would be served by continuing with FIR,paties have settled among themselves ,so on and so forth.

You can file for the quashing of the FIR before the Hon'ble High Court by invoking section 482 of the cr.pc. it entirely depends on the facts and circumstances of each and every case and the High Court takes into consideration the nature of the alleged crime and the alleged miscarriage of justice if the Fir is not quashed.
