Is a Settlement with Petitioner possible in Criminal case

08-Aug-2023 (In Criminal Law)
I have a Cr case pending since 2013 till now.One petitioner filed a case against me and since then the state has taken up the case on his behalf. While I looked up the online databse of case status and reports, the report states the case has gone from being MR.X vs unknown to Mr.X Vs MR.Y.I fail to understand if the State is pursuing the case on behalf of MR.X or if its MR,X pursuing the case against me?.Also I want some words of advice if I can approach Mr.X to drop the case and settle it out of court and will the State drop the charges against me.Is that possible or any other way out ?Thanks

Sir please understand, there are some cases which can be settled if other side is ready, there are some cases in which the case can be settled with permission of court, and there are some cases in which the matter cannot be settled and you have to face the trial, hence unless you tell me the sections which you have charged I cannot advice you whether the case can be settled or no, so please provide the details.

It is not clear what the offence is. One has to see if the offence is bailable or non-bailable, whether it is a crime against state or not, whether it is compoundable or not. Only then could be decided if the complainant can take back his complaint or not. The state would not pursue the case on behalf of an individual. If a case is classified as crime against state, then police would fight the case. In common parlance it is called police case. Your question is too general to elicit specific answer from anybody.
