Hi, I was driving on highway on Saturday in evening around 5 PM. I saw a petrol pump which was opposite side of the highway and there was a cut in divider few meters before petrol pump. I have turned my car to the opposite side of the road through that cut and then turn my car towards petrol pump (this is where I entered on wrong side of the road). As I took a turn on opposite side of highway, police caught me and showed images of my car showing you have pass through divider and then took a wrong turn to go to petrol pump (as there wasn't any service road). nThey booked me under IPC 279 and asked me to pledge guilty in court. My questions are.1. Since I am in software industry, I need to change my companies every few years and when ever I join new company they will carry background check. What effect this case would cause on my hiring if I pledge guilty.2. They had photos which shows I was driving on the wrong side of the road. How can I defend myself to get acquittal from court

please do not plead guilty as it may form a permanent record in the national crime record bureau. it is necessary that you share some more information on the facts of the case so that I can assist you further.

You have to check whether chargesheet is filed by the police in court or not. Once you get the copy of chargesheet from court, you will know exactly what evidence police has provided to court and according you may defend your case.

Well The offence punishable under a Section of the IPC is a cognizable Offence, which means that the police can arrest someone for a crime without a warrant, but such Offences are bailable. I hope you understood what I was trying to say.

The Punishment for Section 279 is 6 months imprisonment or with fine as well as. it's a Bailable offence the matter can be closed down in lokadalat too with fine ordered by court as it will not impact your job profile. Just satisfiy the court with the proper reason
