Colleague borrowed money and is not returning now

One of my ex colleague borrowed money from me and is not returning it now he's coming up with excuses everytime I ask for money how should I proceed legally against him
if your colleague is not returning your money you have the option to recover your money by filing the recovery suit but you have to give him a legal notice before moving towards the recovery suit

send him a legal notice for recovery of money . mention the date, time and mode of transfer of money.
give him a specific period for returning the money. Also mention that after this period is over, you will file a case against him in court.
