Accused of Buying Jewellery from Thieve

11-Jul-2024 (In Criminal Law)
Police came from Bangalore to our jewellery store with a thief. He said he sold us Jewellery which he had robbed a year ago. We are retailers of Gold Jewellery who donot buy Jewellery for cash. They than took our staff without showing us any paper work etc. We were forced to pay even though we have not purchased anything. They said if we don't pay we will take you to Bangalore and arrest you. This scared us and were forced to pay. How do we avoid this kind of situation. Please advice

Buying stolen items/material is an offence and as the alleged accused gave statement that he sold it to you, you are made to suffer. As for your protection, you may preserve CCTV footages of each date for years to counter the alleged claim of any accused.

Well, you need to record KYC details of the person from whom you are buying the salary, along with that, maintain the video footage of the Jewellery which you are buying. There are certain other advices too, which I will give you on call to keep yourself safe and secured from not dealing in Theft Jewellery
