Unfair trade oractice ;charging registration fee by hospitals

18-Apr-2025 (In Consumer Court Law)
I think charging compulsory registration fee by hospitals is unfair trade practice because no goods or service is delivered in lieu of it. I lost the case in all courts upto NCDRC. Hospital says it does demographic research from data collected by registration. If so, they must do research at their own cost. Actually, hospital uses the data to know each doctor's earnings & what is his share! I lost case because CEO of hospital is very rich. I want to file appeal in Telangana H.C.

I understand your concern completely. Charging a compulsory registration fee when no clear service is provided is not just unfair—it may also be a violation of your rights as a consumer. Hospitals cannot charge money without offering a proper service in return, and using that money for their internal research or tracking doctor performance is not a valid reason to charge patients. Even though your case was dismissed by the lower courts and NCDRC, we still have the option to move the **Telangana High Court**. We can file an appeal or a writ petition showing that this fee is being unfairly charged and that no benefit is being given to the patient in return. The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 is meant to stop exactly this kind of practice. As your advocate, I can help you prepare and file the case in the High Court and present your side strongly. Just because the hospital is powerful doesn’t mean they are above the law. Let me know if you’d like to go ahead—we can take this forward and try for a fair result.
