How to deal with unfair practices by university

31-May-2023 (In Consumer Court Law)
I was a student in X instutue. I have just completed my M.A course. I have been paying all kinds of fees by online transfer, to the institute's State Bank of India Savings Account. I prefer the online payment because even I have an SBI account, enabling me zero transaction charges for NEFT online transfer. Since I could not attend the Convocation, I was supposed to fill up a Degree in Absentia Form, along with the respective fees of Rs. 500. But in their mail, they mentioned that if I am paying using online transfer, I would be required to pay Rs. 550, Rs.50 towards bank charges. The authorities are not explaining to me what kind of bank charges this is. I would like to know if it is right on their part to charge this extra Rs.50, when I can actually transfer money to the institute's account free of any charges.

Institutes have right to make rules for themself. You can pay 550/- under protest and subsequently write to deen/principal asking why is 50/- charged extra, and narrate the facts to them. Fighting a case/notice through advocate would be costlier.

If the institute is not clarifying the extra charges then they are failing at their part. Convey your grievance in writing and communicate to them and seek their answer within 15 days. Also you can file a complaint in consumer court for unfair trade practices
