Car dealer ask for more money for increase in registration prices

24-May-2023 (In Consumer Court Law)
I bought Hyundai creta on 28 Feb from a dealer in Gurgaon. I made all the payment including road registration charge etc and took the delivery. After month time dealer calls me and ask for extra money. He says that car price increased on 1 March so while applying for permanent number the transport authority is considering new price and the diff I need to shell out. The difference is about 35k. Question is who pay this amount. Can dealer ask me to pay legally

It depends on the contract you signed with the dealer. If the dealer was supposed to initiate registration before the 1st of March when the new prices became applicable then the liability will be the dealer's. If not then you may have to pay the difference. Thus it can be ascertained only on seeing the agreement signed between you and the dealer. If the Dealer is responsible and he does honour the agreement then you may take the dealer to the Consumer Court.

Before considering legal course of action you must check with RTO whether what the dealer is stating is true. Normally the state registration charges are a percentage of the basic price of the vehicle actually paid by you as per the invoice and the revised charges should not be applicable to you. You need to approach RTO office for this to clarify the issue.
