Can action be taken for writing bad stuff against a girl on whatsapp

I did chat with my friend on whatsapp about a girl and said some bad stuff about her. He went ahead and showed that chat to the girl. The girl has lodged a complaint to the authorities and is claiming obsecenity and character assassination. My friend is willing to help her in any way possible. My question is, does she have legal grounds to proceed or is this even a crime?
Yes it certainly is a crime! You have defamed her and she can take appropriate legal action against you. She can get an FIR lodged against you under Section 354 IPC for outraging her modesty. She can also file a complaint under section 500 IPC for defaming her and the other thing she can do is that she can file a civil suit for damages against you for defaming her.

Yes its a crime but its depend upon the word which you had used .... if she file a police case against you then its time to file a bail application in court otherwise you may be arrested by the police
