Affedevit for legal guardian at university of Delhi

01-Jul-2026 (In Civil Law)
Hello, can anyone inform me whether the affidavit for the legal guardian, required for university admission, must be signed in the presence of a notary, or if I can simply provide the stamped affidavit to my guardian and request their signature?

For any affidavit to be valid the guardian has to be present before notary with identification documents, if possible. You cannot circumvent law because of inconvenience, because later on it might be an issue and whole admission can be cancelled

yes it is required to sign in front of a legal officer that is a notary person. there could be a separate option while requesting, such a notary person can come to your place along with his register to take signature only in case of medical emergency or elderly person couldn't come there. special appointment with charges can be availed in such cases

usually a notary will not stamp a document unless and until it is completely signed and complete in all aspects in that there are no missing information in the affidavit. the person signing the affidavit must be present before the notary.

No you need to sign that in presence of notary. Though lawyers have connections with these notary people you can give them a signed document and they will help you get it attested. For any further inquiry you can contact me

Generally, an affidavit should be signed by the deponent in the presence of the Notary Public or Oath Commissioner, who verifies the identity of the deponent and attests the affidavit. It is not advisable to get the affidavit notarized first and obtain the guardian's signature later, as this may affect the validity of the notarization. However, if the concerned university has issued any specific guidelines, the same should also be followed. For advice based on your particular requirements, you may consult a local advocate.
