Forging cheque is covered under Sections 420/461/467/468/471 IPC (cheating and forgery)and a serious offence punishable up to 10 years. Yes we can lodge a criminal complaint with the police, an application under Section 156 (3) Cr.P.C. if the police do not take any action or can also file a criminal complaint in the court under section 200 Cr.P.C.
