Q: What are the Legal Actions to take When Girlfriend Breaks a Promise to Marry?
Is there any legal recourse if my girlfriend, who promised to marry me, has now refused due to pressure from her family after we were in a relationship for a year? She had a physical relationship with me based on this promise, and I have proof of our relationship. Is there any law protecting men in situations where their trust is broken, similar to the protections women have? How can I pursue legal action against her for breaking this promise and playing with my emotions and time?
Advocate Suvajit Ghosh Dastidar answered
1st of all you need to understand that the promise to marry you is a verbal one as result you cannot prove it.Secondly marriage is a social sacrament not a promise or agreement. So there is no law to punish so it will better for you if you start your life afresh forgetting all your past. Regards
