Q: Civil matter , right to privacy of cctv camera installed by landlord

Landlord is staying in 1st floor but he was installed cctv camera in 3rd floor and cctv camera focusing on my main entry gate so I was trying to objection to landlord I told him you can't install without tenet permission by verbally and written but he told me no need to take any permission because that was security purposes.so what can I do?

Advocate Roshni Laha answered
landlords can install CCTV in the common areas, staircase, main entrance , lift area etc to protect property and tenants, but they must not violate privacy in private areas like inside apartments. Having visible surveillance cameras (not spy or hidden cameras) in the common areas, like the driveway, front door, backyard, garage, apartment hallways, lobbies, vestibules, stairwells and any other areas used for ingress and egress where access is relatively uncontrolled, is not an act of flouting law.
