Want clarification of notice period after resignation.

I was working in a private ltd company in retail sector had given resignation but company told me do notice period of two month.I am giving mention clause detail below please suggest me it have to do or not mandatory . "post confirmation, your service may be terminated by either party giving notice in writing for two month or payment of salary in lieu thereof. The aim of this clause is to minimize unnecessary disruption of business.

Every employment contract has a standard clause like this and you can chose either of any. Meaning thereby, if you want to leave immediately then you can do it by paying the amount equivalent to your salary of two months time period or you can serve the company for the next two months before you actually get relieved from your company.
