How to recover unpaid invoices from previous company

The case is about recovering the old unpaid invoices from a MNC in Bangalore. These invoices were not raised in time and so the MNC is not giving a definitive answer other than saying the books for the fiscal are already closed. should send them a legal notice or what to do?.
You can give them a legal notice later you are entitle to file a suit for recovery incase recoverable amount is not beyond 3 years.
