Is it possible to have both USA and Indian passport

Both my wife and me are indian nationals working in the USA. we are planning to have a baby and i would like to have both US and Indian passports for that baby. What are the challenges do you foresee in doing so?
Firstly in India holding two passports is a crime. Once you register yourself as a national of another country, you are required to surrender your indian passport as per the Indian immigration and passport laws. There is no statutory provision of holding two passports in India. You may opt for an OCI instead if you desire to register your child as an American Citizen.
