16-Jan-2023 (In Documentation Law)

We are a group of ex students from our school and intend to start an association/ alumni to give out scholarships in our native city/ school for the meritorious. How do we get started and we need end to end assistance on getting this up and keep it running as well? Thank you.

A trust should be created by executing a trust deed with the name, address and object of the trust. It should mention the settlor and two trustees of the trust along with the property of the trust. A trust deed needs to be registered and very nominal stamp duty is required to be paid. The alumni (or even third parties) can donate amounts to the trust which the trust will then disburse as scholarships to meritorious students. The trustees will be in-charge of managing the funds of the trust by granting scholarships as provided for in the trust deed. Therefore, this deed will govern the functioning of the trust and should be carefully drafted taking into account all foreseeable situations. Feel free to get in touch if we could be of any further assistance to you.
