In laws threatening and not letting me file a divorce what can be done

My friend, aged 35 now, is a Muslim and married his uncle's daughter under compulsion of his parents before 7 years. He already had an affair with a Hindu girl, aged 29 now, and thought to marry her. But his family threatens him by using media names, and will approach police if he asks for divorce. He's afraid and got mental pressure bcoz of this he was addicted to alcohol. They asking for 30 lakhs seems to give divorce. They saying marry her also as polygamy is allowed in their community but my friend is not willing and want to get separated from his wife and remarry her girl friend. Her girl friend ready to marry him if gets divorce. Please advise what are the problems he has to face and how much he need to get the divorce.

As per the Muslim act, let him pronounce talak and get separated. Let him contact me so that I can help in this aspect. It is the court which decides the alimony and none else. Therefore, advise him.

You friend can approach the Chief Kazi for Divorce. He can also send Divorce Notice and get divorce. The Police cannot do anything in this matter. Your friend being a muslim by religion, can very well pronounce triple talaq and dissolve his marriage.
The pronouncements should be witnessed and communicated to his wife in a proper manner including the mode of payment of dower amount etc.
Though he dont need to specify any reason for his talaq as per shariat rules, he may still mention the grounds as 'cruelty' for pronouncing he talaq.
He should hav courage to face the situation and the society.
He should not be scared by the threats posed by the girl side or the society if he has to achieve his ambition for love marriage with the person he is in love with.
