Cheque bounce case is time bound. As stated by you, the Cheque issued by you bounced on 13th February and in such an event your friend should have issued a statutory notice before 15th March and since you claim to have not paid the amount, your friend should have filed the case before 30th April in an appropriate Magistrate Court. Since no case was filed before an appropriate Magistrate Court before 30th April, your friend cannot file a case now and even the Police cannot interfere in your matter. Now it is for you to decide whether to settle or not, but since you are admitting that you have borrowed money, my advice would be to pay back forty thousand after taking back all the documents executed in this regard including the bounced cheque.

Hello
If u r ready to settle the matter amicably but your friend tried to indulege in a false case then u dont worry.
Let him file a case before the court that time u have apportunity to make your submissions before.
Secondely whether the transaction was done only that place your friend file a case not other than that place.
Thank u.

Your liability is restricted only Rs 40000 being the amount of cheque. The holder will have to issue you a notice of dishonour of cheque and legally if you pay the amount of cheque within the period of 15 days from the date of receipt of notice then there can't be any criminal case against you. After filing the civil suit for 220000 you can email the copy of plaint. After perusal of plaint only the query of jurisdiction can be answered
