How to recover amount from a friend?

i had given 2.5lacs rupees to my friend in 2014september meanwhile given a promissory note to me. now how to recover amount from my friend.
You should file a suit for recovery of money before September 2017 . Have you advanced the money by cheque or cash? It's better if you issue a legal notice before filing the suit. Please furnish the promissory note for me to advice suitably
