What steps can be taken to recover amount from a debtor

I have given 5 lakks to a person by cheque , he has given back 2 Lakhs but refusing to give 3 Lakhs I do not have any written agreement police called him and he said that 250000 he has paid in cash to me but he did not 50000/- cheque he said I have not put , I have put the cheque but there was no money in his account. cheque was not dishoured by me . can you help here?

Yes, you can recover rest of amount of yours. If you have cheques issued by that person you can present in bank and bank will dishonour the cheques and you can easily recover your amount by way of filing complaint u/s 138 of NI Act, If you don't have cheques than you can recover the said amount by way of filing recovery suit in the civil courts.

Serve him a legal notice with the help of an advocate for making the payment within a stipulated time of 15 days after receiving the notice. If even then he did not come up with the money than u can file a suit for recovery against him.
