Consumer court claim amount for e-commerce refund denial case

13-May-2026 (In Recovery Law)
I paid Rs 1340 via UPI on an e-commerce site. Cancelled immediately. They committed refund by Nov 2025 in writing on their platform. Never refunded. Ignored my calls, emails, NCH grievance (disposed), and legal notice. Now filing in District Consumer Commission. What is the appropriate minimum and maximum compensation I can demand beyond the refund amount?

You do not seem to have a valid case. since you voluntarily made a payment to an e-commerce site, the payment is valid and does not entitled you to cancel the same. that is the reason why no refund has been given to you. instead you must approach the e commerce site for refund if your claim is genuine. you might have the time to indulge in such activities but fighting a claim of Rs. 1340 is not a proper utilisation of the court's time which are already overburdened with frivolous and unnecessary claims.

your case, apart from refund of Rs. 1340 with interest, you may reasonably claim: • Interest on refund amount (generally 9%–12% per annum) • Litigation costs of around Rs. 5,000–15,000 • Compensation for mental harassment and deficiency in service, commonly between Rs. 10,000–50,000 depending on conduct of the company and evidence of repeated follow-ups.

There is no minimum order maximum limit as such and you may claim reasonable compensation basis the mental harassment and agony faced as well as legal costs and interest apart from basic amount. However ,it should appear to be reasonable and not overly inflated. Feel free to seek detailed legal consultation with me to understand further and get proper legal advise.

You can demand a reasonable amount basis the mental and emotional harassment caused to you along with litigation costs. If you have a good case in your favour the Court will provide you with an appropriate compensation.

Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, there is no statutory minimum or maximum cap on the compensation you can demand. Consumer Commissions award compensation based on equity, the actual financial loss, and the intensity of harassment you faced.
