Illegal claim on property in possession with me for 25 years

We have been staying in the site for 25 years, but now one party claiming this site belongs to them. We have been paying tax and electricity bills for 25 years. Do we need to respond to his notice?
Yes, we should reply to his notice if not he will initiate s civi; suit against you and you will have to appear in the court. But you should understand whether it is a lawyers notice or a court notice.
