Landlord claiming for damage in the flat what can we do

Hi, i have vacated the house and asked owner and borker to come and give my deposit and take the key, they did;nt turned on time, and i vacated the house and took the key and one of the mover and packer left water tap opened, due which wter logged in whole house and there was seepage to below house. He is claiming for whole damage as we are responsible for this whole thing .
In case of damage to the flat caused by people working on behalf of you, you will be responsible for such damage and the landlord can claim compensation from you for such damage.
