I’ve moved into a rented apartment but no agreement has been shared

I’ve moved into a rented apartment more than a week ago. I did Aadhaar biometric KYC at broker’s office and paid registration fee almost a month ago and paid two months rent as security deposit to owner. I have paid one month’s rent as brokerage as well. Till now the rent agreement or leave or license agreement has not been shared with me. But both of them are following up for first month’s rent. What are options and what should I do?

Do not pay further rent until the registered Leave and License Agreement is executed and a copy is provided to you. Ask the owner and broker in writing for the registered agreement immediately, and if they still fail to provide it, consider sending a legal notice and approaching the local rent authority or police if fraud is suspected.

You should immediately request the landlord/broker in writing to provide the executed rent/leave-and-license agreement and clarify the payment terms. Keep proof of all payments, including rent, security deposit, brokerage, and registration fees. Do not make duplicate payments without verifying the agreed terms. If the agreement was not executed/registered as legally required, seek refund or appropriate legal remedies depending on the applicable State law.
