Failed to pay rent what action can landlord take

15-May-2023 (In Landlord/Tenant Law)
We're three people living in Channasandra on rental basis. Unfortunately we have missed the rent payment and the surplus has now amounted to 80 thousand rupees. The landlord bullies us now, we are afraid. We spoke to him about vacating the place but he won't let us. Instead, if we vacate,he wants to take us to another place controlled by him and he will keep us impound until we pay him off in full amount. I need an advice regarding what legal measure he may take against us if we vacate the place, considering that he never prepared rental agreement under our names. I need to know how to be safe

You are bound to pay the rent. Your landlord has a right to recover the rent amount. But the landlord cannot use illegal means to recover the amount. If your landlord is giving threats to take illegal means to recover the amount then you can make a complaint in the police station regarding such threats. The landlord can recover the rent amount by filing a recovery suit in civil court.
