Can I file defamation case if someone says insulting statements

I'm living in a rented flat in ahmedabad apart from me there are two more guys are living with me one is my friend nd another one is the owner of my company from last two weeks my friends (female) are coming on my flat due to a marriage function in my office but there is one guy living im my building was saying that you are doing a prostitution in your home so can i file a manhani case on him
Whoever, by words either spoken or intended to be read, or by signs or by visible representations, makes or publishes any imputation concerning any person intending to harm, the reputation of such person or in the estimation of others, lowers the moral or intellectual character of that person he can file a defamation case and ask for compensation
