Remedy if not able to pay pending credit card dues in another country

24-Nov-2023 (In International Law Law)
I was in UAE in a job. The contract was for two years and got extension. During this period, I had credit card from XYZ bank of UAE. I was using this and was paying promptly monthly dues. In addition to this I had taken a loan from the same bank. Suddenly few months back I was asked to return to India immediately. I returned and am in search of a job here. Some credit card agency people came to my house and demanded to pay Rs15 lacs on my credit card and the loan. I have not defaulted and have cleared the dues till I returned to India. Since I have no job I cannot pay at this moment. Also after looking at the statement shown by agency, it is noticed that someone from UAE only has transferred riyals from my card. I have the card with me. I do not know how this has happened. The agents are harassing me daily. I cannot pay now as I do not have a job. Please advise how to go about

You should have surrendered your card to the bank before leaving UAE or you should have sent a mail to the bank to block the card which you have not done. Any bank abroad has every right to arrange systems for recovery of dues even when you have returned to your native. You cannot escape liability of genuinely what is due. Banker will not accept your reason that you are unemployed. You have also taken a loan which you need to pay. By bilateral treaties the powers of recovery are vested in banks of two countries. We suggest you to take advise from a lawyer to protect yourself, if you know any in international laws. Should you require our help, please call on us.
