Who is a Legal Advisor?

A legal advisor's job is both profitable and fraught with duties, pressure, and excitement. A legal advisor can work for both the government and the private sector. A person must be an eligible advocate with the Bar Council of India’s ‘Certificate of Practice’ and have some experience in the subject in which he or she provides legal advice to become a legal advisor.

The legal advisor in the government sector could be the solicitor general, the assistant solicitor general, the extra solicitor general, the attorney general, and so on. Apart from these individuals, the government may retain individual lawyers for help on any specific problem, such as the interpretation of a treaty in light of current law or a particular issue. In the private sector, a lawyer can be employed as a legal advisor to a company or an MNC to advise on any specific matter such as labor laws to be followed by that corporation or their Corporate Social Responsibility under law.

What does a Legal Advisor do?

For any specific merger or amalgamation of two companies, a legal advisor can be recruited to understand the legal obligations of the companies and advise their clients on what is right and wrong with the merger.

The position of a legal counselor is both lucrative and full of responsibilities, pressure, and excitement. A legal advisor can work for the government or a private company. To become a legal advisor, a person must be an eligible advocate with a 'Certificate of Practice' from the Bar Council of India and have some expertise in the field in which he or she provides legal advice.

The Solicitor general, the assistant solicitor general, additional solicitor general, attorney general, and so on are examples of legal advisors in the government sector. Apart from these people, the government can hire individual lawyers to help with any difficulty, such as interpreting a treaty in light of existing law or a specific situation.

Eligibility Criteria to become a Legal Advisor

To become a legal advisor, a person must have fulfilled the following criteria:

  1. Courses leading to a diploma or certificate cannot be the main criterion,

  2. A candidate must have earned an LLB from a recognized university,

  3. LLM holders can also work as legal advisors.
