The Court said that under Indian law, a live-in relationship between consenting adults is legal if the requirements of marriage, such as legal age of marriage, consent, and soundness of mind, are met. No rule permits or bans such connections.
The Supreme Court of India even stated that a woman and a man living together is a choice that falls under the right to life. As a result, no criminal offence exists. So, in India, live-in relationships are legal.

absolutely acceptable in the sense that it's not illegal and therefore no penal consequences ensues. as far as regulatisation of the living together is concerned it's not possible to give w legal or jural recognition to such cohabitation unless there's more right involved which might include maintenance or share in property.
