Cost would entail lawyers professional fees and other out of pocket expenses. It varies from lawyer to lawyer. The procedure would be you have to apply to the sub registrar of area where the deceased was staying and the legal heirs/ applicants reside. Upon filing the application alongwith affidavit and nocs of other legal heirs a physical verification will be conducted by the patwari and upon satisfaction the certificate will be issued

You can file the application for Surviving Member Certificate in your SDM office along with all the necessary documents like Affidavits of all the Surviving Members, ID proofs of all the Surviving Members, Death Certificate of the head of the family, Self Declaration of the Applicant along with his photos and ID proofs..
