What are the eligibility criteria to adopt a child

The adoption is under the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act of 1956.i assume u r a Hindu .rest requirements I think u r fulfilling .it takes almost 6 months time .u may go through some agency unless deciding to adopt child from known relations .

If you are unmarried then, Yes you can adopt as per provisions of
Hindu Adoption and Maintenance act ,
Only unmarried Hindu women can adopt a child , married women can only give consent to her husband for an adoption . Child must be Hindu and below 16 years and there must not be a child living under parentship belongs to the same sex of the would-be adoptive child. You are eligible under certain circumstances where you should be physically and mentally stable and financially capable to maintain the adoptive child. Though you are female you can adopt any gender of child. But the minimum age difference between you and the child shall not be less than twenty five years.

If you are a Hindu then you are permitted to adopt and other religions are only appointment s as legal guidan by the court. Yes if you adopt a female child then their is no legal bar if you want to a adopt male child the the age difference between you both is must be 21 years
