I’m seeking advice about a live-in relationship. We are both adults (18+), and we plan to live together in my home, where my parents are supportive. Her family found out about our relationship and are strictly against it. They’ve been threatening us that if we live together, they will file false cases and won’t let us live peacefully. We haven’t left home yet ,we just want to know:- can we live safely without interference from her family or local police? What all legal steps we can approach?
Yes, you can have a live-in relationship with ur girlfriend if u both crossed 18 years age bar. However, for a valid marriage a man must be of 21 years of age. So in ur case live - in relationship is permissible as per various Supreme Court judgements. If anyone including her family harasses you legally you may file police protection petition in Highcourt. Now for your saftey please take valid photographs and also Execute a mutual live-in relationship affidavit before a notary. This is not mandatory, but it can serve as proof of consensual cohabitation. This will also help a man, if the girl tomorrow claims a rape after promise to marry, as we see in many live - in relationships after its break up.
