Sister harassed by in laws

My sister got married to a guy, and their family is continuously torturing us with words and asking more money sometimes. They are treating my sister as a maid and asking her to work 24x7 (she is working as a Charted accountant) though she is pregnant she is supposed to work until 11:00 pm and she is supposed to sit inside house she have to stand all the time. They use very harsh words whenever my parents try to speak with them . i want to know in which cases we can file domestic voilence case

Dear brother and sister, your has to file domestic violence case against her husband as well as her in laws for harassing on her, before going to file the domestic violence case you have to file police complaint in this regard and thereafter you have to file domestic case.

You sister can file a domestic violence case against her inlaws or husband on the ground of mental torture and economic harassment. As a first step she need to approach a jurisdictional Protection Officer and give a complaint in writing and thereafter after obtaining a Domestic Incident Report from the Protection Officer, she can file a Domestic violence case.

Your sister has the following options: (1) file a case for Domestic Violence and seek interim maintenance, "residence" and "protection" orders from the Court. It is a single case but different orders can be sought to offer her protection and financial support; (2) file a criminal Complaint under Section 498A against her husband and family members with the Police Station and initiate criminal proceedings; and (3) file a Divorce Case in the Family Court.

Dear Querist, Your sister need not take the torture from her husband/inlaws. She can straight away file 498 A IPC for dowry harassment, for this she has to file a police compliant adding husband and inlaws. She can also file a domestic violence case if there is proof of torture. Apart, she can also file a divorce case and in the application she can ask maintenance. Pratap, Advocate
