An agreement that is signed on stamp paper stating that dowry has neither been taken nor demanded may not necessarily prevent future legal action in the event of a dispute arising. The agreement would need to be legally binding and enforceable in order for it to have any effect on future legal proceedings. Additionally, dowry is illegal in India and any agreement related to dowry is considered as void ab initio under Indian Law. Therefore such agreement cannot be used as defense in court if a case is filed in future.
